Resilient Vinyl Flooring for a Long-Lasting Value

Vinyl flooring, also known as resilient flooring, is a great choice for both commercial and residential flooring. Vinyl flooring comes in various styles and can be made to reproduce the expensive look of ceramic, stone, and even wood floors.

As its name suggests, Resilient flooring is perfect for commercial flooring as it holds up in even the harshest of conditions. Additionally, vinyl flooring is easy to maintain and is highly water-resistant and stain-proof.

Tips to Help Protect Your Luxury Vinyl Floors

  • Outside each entrance of a home place a doormat to prevent sand, dirt, grit, and other substances such as oil, driveway sealer, and asphalt from being tracked onto the floor. We recommend to using non-staining mats

  • Minimize possible staining from asphalt tracking by using a latex-based driveway sealer

  • A combination of heat and sunlight causes home furnishings, including vinyl floors, to fade and discolor. Draw the curtains and blinds where extreme sunlight is exposed on the floor.

  • Support furniture with wide-bearing, non-staining floor protectors. The protectors should be at least one inch in diameter, made of non-staining felt protectors Casters with a minimum 3/4″ flat surface width or floor protectors are recommended for all movable furniture. Ensure all metal protectors are rust-proof and replace any narrow dome furniture rests with wide-bearing ones

  • Always use runways even if you have an appliance dolly, or if the heavy objects are equipped with wheels or rollers

  • When moving furniture or appliances across the floor, ALWAYS use hardboard or wood runways to protect the floor

MAINTENANCE FOR LAMINATE FLOORING

Laminate flooring was designed to be low maintenance and low cost. Because of this, there isn’t a lot of work required to properly maintain your laminate flooring. Laminate is:

  • Stain Resistant

  • Dent Resistant

  • Burn Resistant

  • Scratch Resistant

HOW TO REPAIR LAMINATE FLOORING

As resistant as it is, if there is a time when you need to repair a few dents or scratches, all manufacturers provide step-by-step instructions on how to fix your laminate flooring. If possible, follow those instructions exactly. This will protect your warranty on the product. In general, the process for repairing your laminate floor will follow the steps below.

STEP 1: PREPPING THE REPAIR COMPOUND Get a tray and the double-tube syringe provided in the repair kit. Cut the nozzles of the syringe and squeeze both parts of the compound into the tray. Allow the elements to mix together.

STEP 2: FILL DENT OR SCRAPE WITH COMPOUND In the repair kit, find the plastic scraper. Using the scraper, scoop a little bit of the laminate repair compound and press it into the damaged area.

STEP 3: SCRAPE OFF THE EXCESS Use a metal scraper to scrape off any excess compound from the repaired area. It is critical to do this before the compound dries. Then, you’re done!

HOW TO CLEAN LAMINATE FLOORING

You will find that your laminate flooring is super easy to clean. Once a week, or as needed, run the vacuum, dust mop, or even just a damp cloth across your floor. That is all you’ll need to do most of the time. Manufacturers usually sell cleaner that is designed specifically for their flooring products.

Never mop your laminate floor with water or soap as this can cause long-term damage. When spills happen, just wipe them up with a sponge or cloth and they should come up with relative ease. Be sure to clean up any spills or other wet areas quickly to keep your floor in its best possible condition.

To protect your laminate floors long-term, you should use doormats at all outside entrances to trap moisture and dirt and to keep it off your floors. You should also place felt floor protectors on the bottom of all of your furniture in order to prevent damage. The heavier the furniture, the wider the protectors should be.
